Shruti and Laya: “Shruti Matha, Laya Pitha” means shruti is the mother of music and laya its father. Some of these terms may be familiar to our rasikas but the idea of going through it, is for the benefit of carnatic music students and beginners. I perform both vocal and Veena, as primary and also for dance concerts.In this week’s column, I am going to talk to you about some of the basic carnatic music terminologies that are often employed in music circles.
Have guided several students to do graduation, post graduation and NET JRF exam in Carnatic Music and perform in temples and special occasions. I have eleven years of experience in teaching Carnatic Music both vocal and veena in various institutions and also taking private classes online. I have a passion for teaching music to those who are genuinely interested.
